September to March is the best time to visit Kerala — pleasant and dry, ideal for backwaters and hill stations. The monsoon (June–August, and a second spell in Oct) is lush, atmospheric and the traditional season for Ayurveda, but heavy at times. April–May is hot and humid.

Kerala has three airports — Kochi (COK), Trivandrum (TRV) and Kozhikode (CCJ) — all well connected to the metros, with Kochi the most convenient base. Trains run the length of the state, and roads are good for the hill-and-backwater circuit.
